On average, 2,000 m² of veneer for furniture, flooring, accessories, etc. can be produced from one tree. Fast-growing woods or wood residues are used as substrate material for furniture, for example. These include particleboard, MDF board, multiplex board or lightweight board. Veneer made from slow-growing and noble woods is then applied as a surface to the carrier board using ecological adhesives. The beauty of natural wood images was already wanted by the ancient Egyptians. For lack of attractive woods, they invented veneering, whose name derives from "to cover with noble leaf wood". About 5,000 years ago, they started cutting valuable and beautiful wood trunks into thin slices in order to use the raw material economically. This technique is still used today in a similar form.
